The Outer Banks

As an avid yearly vacationer to the outer banks and a student in website development why not launch my first website about the outer banks in the eyes of a vacationer. The outer banks has everything to do and nothing to do. That is why it is a great place to vacation. The outer banks was shaped by the Atlantic Ocean hundreds of years ago. The first settlers from across the Atlantic disappeared without a trace after several years. Native Americans came and gone throughout the seasons. Pirates such as Black Beard used these Islands as a safe haven from the British Navy. The Outer banks was the first of its kind to become a National Sea Shore under the National Parks. It is a place of mystery and history that has been and will be enjoyed as long as the Atlantic Ocean does not take it back.

Towns and Villages

The sea shore stretches starting from Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras and Ocracoke it’s most southern habituated island. There are over a dozen Towns, Villages that occupy the coast line.

I only vacationed in two of the villages Hatteras and Buxton, but visited many of them during my week long vacation each summer. Hatteras is the spot that I went with my Mother and Father as I child and young adult. This was in the 1970’s and 1980’s. This part of the outer banks was not built up and mostly ran by the local islanders. To this day there are very few changes to this Village.

During the 2000’s my wife and I started to stay in the Village of Buxton This village is still many untouched by outside development.

What to Do

You may ask what is there to do without all of the fancy hotels and theme parks and mini golf courses. You can relax on the soft sandy beaches, fish the surf, and get ice-cream from the local ice cream stand. If you feel energetic run, walk the beach. The best part for me is taking my kids ghost crap hunting. It is a vacation spot for relaxing. You want to be busy running around your entire vacation then take a cruise.

Charter Fishing

The Outer Banks is also a great place to sport fish. I watched my father fight an 800 lb. Blue Marlin and I had the opportunity to catch and release one of the giants in the 1990’s. You are only a short boat ride from the Gulf Stream.

Places of Interest

The Outer Banks, North Carloina vacation hot spot. To most vacationers the think of Nags Head, North Carolina. The true Outer Banks is south of the Oregon inlet Bridge.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is a diamond in the rough. Large hotels and touristy development has not reached it. So if you are the person that enjoys night life and volcano mini golf then stay north of the bridge.

I have 40 years of vactions to the lower part of the outer banks and enjoy the undeveloped beaches and relaxing atmosphere.
